Class Dojo Rewards! A Free Rewards Kit for Your Classroom!

This year it seems that I have quite the chatty class! They are so lively and full of things to talk about! While I do allow some chatter in my classroom while they are completing work and activities sometimes the noise level gets to a point that it's hard for anyone to concentrate - 24 voices all on at once. I'm using my attention grabbers a lot during the day. So I've upped the ante a bit with some Class Dojo Rewards. 

I LOVE Class Dojo! It's amazing and highly effective in class, especially when they hear the dings and the bonks. Right back on track! 

I'm using the rewards weekly. For every point at the end of the day, they get 1 Dojo Dollar. I keep track on a tracking form on their desk and with a checklist. 

Every Wednesday they can cash in their Dojo Dollars and receive a prize. It's up to them and they can save if they so choose.

The Point Punch Passes are used for keeping track of their cashed in rewards. I printed out the cards, backed them on cardstock, and then laminated them. When a student wishes to cash in for a reward, I punch the number of dollars they redeemed. They can take the card home and show their parents and they receive a certificate that shows what they choose.

Back to School Night Freebie

I just wanted to share a quick little freebie with you  about my parent packet I give out at Teacher Meet and Greet night.  It is continually a work in progress. Every year I add to it or change it or take away from it. Here are some of the pages I'm including this year.

This page sits on top of everything at each student's seat. It gives parents a list of things to do before they leave. It also gives me an opportunity to talk with parents while others aren't standing around waiting their turn. As each parent/family finished their paperwork they can put up supplies or come speak with me or pay their supply fee. 

Inside the packet, I put the parent and student letters,

Information on Class Dojo (WHICH IS AWESOME! If you aren't using it, you totally should. Check out my little blog post on it {HERE})

I also include each individual child's unique code for signing up on ClassDojo. 

Oh, look it's Dorothy from Kansas! 

Students use their codes to set up their little account and parents use their code to receive updates about their child's points. 

The classroom contact information page is also inside the packet. 

along with the class schedule,

the classroom behavior letter, 

and a list of sight words to know by the end of first grade. 

A classroom volunteer page and any forms/letters from the school go in the packet as well. 

Other things include reading strategies to practice at home, problem solving strategies, math homework help, and ideas for books. 

Now our school spent this summer developing Tour Guides for each grade level. My team met in June and knocked this out over two days. We developed a nice document that is comprised of expectations and examples of those expectations so that parents can see what their children will learn in First Grade. 

I am unsure whether these Tour Guides will be printed and handed out to every parent, but we will include some of the items in our parent packet.

Class Dojo

I just wanted to do a quick share today about a wonderful classroom management tool called Class Dojo.

Class Dojo is wonderful!!! The creators really came up with a winner here. This online behavior management system is designed to help teachers with rewarding positive behaviors quickly and easily by giving points. Negative behaviors result in points being taken away. 

Every child is given an online avatar. Once parents sign up, children can customize their avatar and check out their own "wall" to see what their classmates are doing with their avatars and what points they have received. 

 I have been using Dojo for a little over a month now, and I LOVE it!!! The children have really started watching their own behavior, because they want to have the most points!! I use this in conjunction with our PBIS - at the end of every week, for every ten Dojo points awarded that week, the children receive one Paw Point. Whoever has the most Dojo points at the end of the week gets to choose from the treasure chest! It has really begun to improve behavior and attention skills in my classroom. Also, manners have increased! There is a positive Dojo point for "helping others" and "respect" and children have begun being nicer to each other! They want to help and are letting each other go first, or picking up litter - it's been amazing!

 The best part is that it's completely FREE!! The creators are wonderful and ask that we teachers give feedback on how we are using Dojo in our classrooms. If you go to the website, you can read how teachers at all levels are using Class Dojo in their classrooms.

All you need to get started is a computer. There is also an app - iPhone and Android devices. You can take your phone with you to assemblies, field trips, walking down the hallway, etc. Kids know they can receive points for behaving appropriately at all times throughout the day.
